The group consists of Hayate (Knight of Wind), Sasame (Knight of Sound), Goh (Knight of Fire), Kei (Knight of Light), Mannen (Knight of Ice), Hajime (Knight of Water), and Shin (Knight of Plants). The knights explain that Takako (or Fenrir), the 'Princess of Calamity', or 'Princess of Disaster' in the ADV translations, escaped and sent demon larvae (monster worms in Odex translations) to Himeno's town, and that the Leafe, which the larvae are absorbing, is the energy for all life itself. The only way to destroy the demons is for Himeno to become the Prétear and fight them alongside the Leafe Knights.

Five hundred years ago, a feudal lord was attacked by demons wanting to retrieve his mysterious inner power, the invincible power that can help them take over the human world. The famous mage, Tokimori Hazama, was called upon, and with his 2 students, managed to save the whole land. But due to their sickness, the feudal lord was killed, his power buried with him at a site called Karasumori.

In the present day, Yoshimori Sumimura and Tokine Yukimura, heirs of the Hazama clan, became the kekkaishi protecting the land and the power. They use a technique called Kekkai, a form of magical barrier, used to capture and destroy Ayakashi (monsters/demons) that are drawn to this land. Any demons that come near to the power will become stronger and therefore Yoshimori and Tokine are to guard the land from intrusion by the Ayakashi.

But the demons form a powerful organization, led by a nine-tailed demon fox to take over that mysterious power. Yoshimori plans to destroy not only the demons, but also the power to completely save the world from being controlled by demons. To do that, he first needs to know what the power actually is, and also strengthen his poor kekkai skills.

Then Kiriya approaches her when he realizes that she reads a book called Blue, a book by a photographer named Yuuji. Karin is uneasy about the advances and starts to leave when the bus stops at the stop for Seika Girls' Academy, which is Karin's high school. Karin drops her book, and Kiriya inadvertently lifts Karin's skirt when he tries to give her book back. The skirt-lifting, combined with the fact that Kiriya still has his camera in his hand, causes Karin to think that Kiriya is "upskirting" her. Karin hits Kiriya and leaves without her book.

Ares, Michael, and Baroona are admitted to the Tample Mercenaries through a simple test of skill against rank B soldiers. After passing the test with ease, they enter the same unit in the Mercenary Corp, and intrigued by each others’ skill, they soon became friends. They also met the fourth member of their group, the cowardly artist Gohue, who hides during battle, but is great at drawing. The three warriors soon prove themselves on their first mission, and rise to Rank B (though all three are far better than the Rank A soldiers). The Tample Mercenaries soon get involved in battles on a national scale, where the main characters meet the great Chronosian general (and later king) Icarus. Impressed by their skills, he hires them on another mission to protect him while he goes to attempt to negotiate his way out of a war with Chronos’ western neighbors, the Radink Alliance. The trio’s help is needed when two generals use Icarus’ absence to overthrow the government of Chronos and use Chronosian soldiers to attempt to kill him. After Ares, Baroona, and Michael see Icarus safely back to his own troops, the Tample Mercenaries are hired to stop the usurpation of the throne by defeating the usurper’s army. Though pure genius, Icarus wins the civil war with minimal losses to either side, and then takes both armies to defend Chronos' western border. The former King’s advisors request that Icarus be the new king, and he accepts their offer. In this battle, Icarus once again uses the Tample Mercenaries and brilliant strategy to provide an advantage to his side. Soon, the black knights were all defeated and the presumed red eyes swordsman escaped. Ares and Michael took chase and was astonished to find out that he was not the red eyes swordsman, but his brother. Red eyes swordsman soon appeared and revealed himself to Ares to make him stronger.

The Secret story arc starts in Japanese volume 6 of Gacha Gacha. It revolves around a malfunction at the Gacha Gacha virtual reality video game, which has since gone retail after the events in the Capsule story arc. The malfunction leaves the main character, an unlucky young man named Akira, transforming into a young girl whenever he sneezes. The body is the tutorial character's body which he was interacting with when the Gacha Gacha game crashed. He later finds out that eating Natto (fermented soybeans) would transform the girl form into a taller and much more buxom form.

Akira uses his newfound body to learn more about women, specifically getting closer and improving his relationship with the girl he is infatuated with.

Nineteen-year-old Takashi Amamiya dies after tripping on a bottle but is transported into a body of a cute girl, Akane Hagiwara. Following this, Amamiya goes through various trials and tribulations dealing with, being a girl, getting his body back, and dealing with old and new friends. Despite its repeated use of slapstick comedy, the story sometimes touches on more mature themes such as sexuality and at one point even rape.

Another thing to mention is that compared to Kawashita's popular Ichigo 100%, the genders have seemingly interchanged. Where as the main plot to Ichigo 100% was several girls aiming for one boy, in Akane-chan Overdrive, several guys (and Akane's female best friend) all seem to be attracted to her (or her body, at least).

Though very ecchi at times, Akane-chan Overdrive contains more shōjo elements than Kawashita's later works.

The series' protagonist, Kimihiro Watanuki (四月一日君尋 , Watanuki Kimihiro?), is a high school student who is continually plagued by supernatural monsters (youkai) and spirits which are magically attracted to him. The creatures are invisible to all but him, and as a result he feels extremely burdened by them. When he quite literally stumbles into a shop that grants wishes, his life changes drastically.

Within the shop is the seductively beautiful Yūko Ichihara (壱原侑子, Ichihara Yūko?), a witch of many names and esoteric renown. The seemingly all-knowing witch soon gets down to business: she offers to grant Watanuki's wish to be rid of his ability to see spirits. However, a price equal to the power required to grant the wish must be paid. Yūko discovers that Watanuki is very skilled with his hands and a hard worker. As a result, Watanuki soon finds himself forced to perform housework and odd jobs for Yūko until he has done enough work for his wish to be granted.

A Thousand Years of Snow

A Thousand Years of Snow is a story revolving around the main protagonist Chiyuki Matsuoka who is a high school girl hospitalized with a heart problem. Since birth her heart has been very weak and she was told that she would probably live to be only fifteen. However, one day she meets Tōya Kanō, a vampire, with the opposite problem: Tōya lives for about one thousand years. It's customary for a vampire at his age of 18 to choose a human partner to be with for 1000 years who in turn would let him drink their blood and share his life span for the millennium.

Early in the series, Chiyuki offers Tōya her blood, so that she would be able to live longer, but Tōya refuses, claiming he dislikes the sight and taste of blood. In the beginning, he even looks down on humans, believing that they are weak creatures who will only die before him and leave him behind.

Parasyte centers on a teenage boy named Shinichi Izumi (Shin in the Mixx English version.) He lives with his mother and father in a rather quiet neighborhood when, one night, an alien invasion occurs. The aliens are called Parasites. They are worm-like creatures that enter human "hosts" through their ears or noses, and take over their brains. A Parasite attempts to crawl into Shinichi's ear and take over his brain while he sleeps, but is stopped by his headphones and accidentally burrows into one of his hands instead. In the Japanese version, it takes over his right hand and it is named Migi (ミギー, Migii?). In the Mixx English version, it takes over his left hand (because the images in the book are flipped to allow for left-to-right reading) and is named "Lefty."

Because the Parasite infected his hand instead of his brain, Shinichi and Migi each retain their own, separate intellect. This gives them an edge in battling the other Parasites, who see Shinichi's ability to think independently as a threat. Shinichi also feels compelled to fight other Parasites, who kill and eat humans for reasons unknown.

The story revolves around the title character, Karin, the middle child in a family of vampires who immigrated to Japan two centuries earlier. However, Karin is different from the rest of the family in that she produces blood instead of feeding on it; because of this, she has to inject blood by biting someone or else she suffers exaggerated nosebleeds. (In manga and anime nosebleeds are also a metaphor for sexual attraction; as Karin is a coming of age story dealing with her first love, the nosebleed imagery does double-duty.) Because of her unusual condition, Karin lives her life just as an ordinary teenage girl would, despite being considered something of a freak by her family. She is able to venture outside during the day and attend high school, and follows the sleep pattern of normal humans. But things take a fateful turn one day when, while at work, he spies on a beautiful girl, Tsukisaki Yuu, changing clothes in an alley behind the inn. Yuu, instead of getting angry, charges him ¥120 (approx. $1.05 USD) for watching her. This isn't the last that he would hear from her, though, as the next day Kazuki sets him up on a blind date with none other than Yuu. They proceed to have a great time, but a great misunderstanding (and a sign of things to come) rears its ugly head when Mugi walks in again on Yuu, this time who is currently having a bath. Yuuji Abe meets a mysterious girl at the subway station. Afuganisu-tan illustrates the modern history of Afghanistan and its neighboring countries, starting from the imperialist era in the 19th century, through moe anthropomorphism. The title character, a short and clumsy bishōjo, is a national personification of Afghanistan. Other female characters personify the nearby nations of Central Asia, such as Pakistan and Uzbekistan. Nations that have fought wars in Afghanistan at various times, such as Britain, Russia and the United States also make apearances. The Taliban government and Al-Qaeda terrorist group are also represented in the comic.

Each 4-koma strip is accompanied by an "Afghan Memo" that explains in prose some of the background and history of the nations depicted. Additional pages give short biographies of the characters.
